Ultra Rare Swiss Delbana Hawthorne Watch.Vintage Mid-1930’s Art Deco Watch! Solid 14k Gold Case and Cover in quite fine condition!White, Jeweled-Face. Crystal is clean and clear.17 Jewel Swiss Delbana Movement. Vintage Kreisler Twist-Band, embellished with 10K Gold Face Plates! This is an incredible addition to your unique high-end watch collection—one that is a difficult representation to find from the Art Deco era.There just aren’t many of these around…. research this one online…how many limited, solid-gold Delbanas have you seen in the last several years? Limited run, and low serial number. Possibly a “custom” order due to solid gold case and jewels.The watch serial #99829 indicates an early manufacture date, probably around the mid-1930’s.After this earlier production period for Delbana, yearly production was scaled up to many thousands per year due to popularity, so early runs were the lowest volumes; and this was a very uncommon model for that period…most examples are their moderately priced ones.It is not known definitively how many of the solid gold cased watcheswere produced, but most likely only in the tens or hundreds, given the lower production runs of the early period. There are so many elegant period watches out there in various conditions,including solid-gold cased timepieces, however their rarity is only relativeto their production runs and survivability. This one however has the desiredlow production run AND fine Swiss craftsmanship AND uniqueness. If you lookfor these online, rarely, if ever, do you you find an early gold Delbana.There are quite a number of Benrus, Hamilton, Cartier, etc watches on the market,but you would be hard-pressed to see another custom Delbana! Please research this one before you buy, and if you have any contributions to its history please let me know. Always open to new information on early models.I am confident you will appreciate its value and price point. Case and band are excellent condition! Completely cleaned and professionally serviced! Movement, including tiny second hand, is quite dependable.Unrestored face, but according to my jeweler, the face can be restored to original look for about $150-350, but given that select collectors resist any restoration present in their pieces, I left untouched. If you decide to restore the face, it can be a nice showcaser….Runs perfect! Also fyi, there is small burr/scrape on the face of the winder that doesnt show well in the pictures. Weight has been scaled at 40.3 gms (+/- 0.25) including the band. DELBANA was founded in 1933 by Goliardo Della Balda. As a young man, he immigrated to Switzerlandwith his family from the Republic of San Marino in the 1920s. The family found a new home in Grenchen at the foot of the Jura mountain range, originally a stronghold of the watch industry. and in 1933 Goliardo foundedthe company. Its also one of the first companies, along with Rolex, to design the “waterproof” watch. A unique example for your collection of rare, fine watches..!
